NCLUG - TECH Talks

Join NCLUG for our weekly TECH Talks about various industry topics to keep you updated on the latest news.

Our next TECH Talk on Oct. 28 will be Part III of the three part series.

A Peek Inside the NCDOT ORD Lab  (A Three Part Series)

Oak Thammavong (NCDOT Roadway Design Unit) -Join us for this informal live session as we demonstrate some of the new cool tools, features and amazing discoveries we have made for the past 3 years in developing OpenRoads Designer (ORD) from the ground-zero perspective. Although the final production ready products may not look the same, it should give our users a glimpse at where we have been and where we are headed for the implementation of ORD next year. We will go over the NCDOT CONNECT Workspace, plans production tools, coordination and workflows, and many more topics centered around ORD daily operations and project deliveries.

Part III: “OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Design Tools"  - October 28th

Tailored for Roadway Design Engineers and all users, we will explore how to use some of ORD cool new tools in your design and model creation, such as Right of Way Plans, new corridor, linear, and surface template types, corridor modeling for better grading models and construction, superelevation rule file 2018 AASHTO updates, and civil cells for interchange horizontal alignments and skewed bridge models.

Part I: “The NCDOT CONNECT WorkSpace"  - September 30th

Tailored more for WorkSpace Administrators, we will explore how the new NCDOT CONNECT WorkSpace was created. From the conversion from V8 to OpenRoads Designer (ORD), to including other DOTs’ WorkSpaces PEF Guidelines, to launching a single Unit, multiple disciplines or the popular “NCDOT_ALL” WorkSpaces which was frequently requested by the PEFs and the NCDOT Divisions. Organization of Element Templates and Feature Definitions as well as the development of Text Styles and Text Favorites will be discussed to be able to take full advantage of ORD 3D modeling capabilities, All users will have a better understanding of what is happening in the background when opening a MicroStation DGN file to begin your work and design.

Part II: “OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Plans Production Tools"  - October 14th

Tailored for all users, we will explore how to create, assemble and manage plan, profile and cross section sheets. We will discuss the various annotation groups (how things are labeled), drawing seeds,  as well as WorkSets Sheet Indexing, Print Styles, Pen Tables, and PDF creation.
